Where to Stay

Xinjiekou District

Central CBD. The one-stop shop for food, shopping, entertainment, and transport. Generally, the first place to consider when searching for hotels in Nanjing.

Fuzimiao District

Close to Fuzimiao and other attractions. Restaurants in the area are mostly targeted towards tourists.

Zhongshan Scenic Area

Quiet and beautiful location in a park. 20 minutes away from the CBD.

Hexi

This new CBD area mainly focuses on business hotels. Far from the main attractions but with convenient services in the area.

1. Jinling Hotel Nanjing

As an iconic building in Nanjing itself, the Jinling Hotel is only 2 minute’s walk from the subway station and next to the Deji Plaza, for all your food and shopping needs. The Jinling Hotel is split between the Jinling Tower and the Yatai Tower, I recommend the Yatai Tower with its floor-to-ceiling windows and simple yet elegant decor.

Price: 620rmb (85usd) per night

2. Holiday Inn Nanjing Aqua City, an IHG Hotel

Right across Fuzimiao, only 1km from the CBD and 35 minutes drive from the airport, Holiday Inn Aqua City is in an excellent location. More importantly, this hotel is perfect for families as it even features suites with a kids’ area designed just for the little ones.

3. The Ritz-Carlton, Nanjing

A luxury hotel in the best spot in Nanjing? That’ll be the Ritz-Carlton. Exit the hotel and you’ll step right into the hustle and bustle of Xinjiekou and Deji plaza. Book the lake view room for an even better experience, boasting impressive views over Xuanwu Lake and Zijin Mountain. If you look hard enough, you can see the Yangtze River and Nanjingchangjiang Bridge stretching over it.

Price: 1700rmb (230usd) per night

4. Relais & Chateaux The Yihe Mansions

Step back in time to the Republic of China (1912–1949) and stay in one of the 15 mansions built in the architectural style of its era, home to former business and military leaders. To say that these are hotels wouldn’t be doing it justice, staying in one of these mansions is more like a cultural immersion. Delight your tastebuds at the hotel buffet restaurant and be pleasantly surprised by the touches of time such as rickshaws, artworks, and old newspapers dotting the area.

Price: 900rmb (120usd) per night

5. Yihe Jieziyuan Hotel

Jieziyuan was repurposed into a hotel from a garden built in the Ming/Qing dynasty next to Fuzimiao but away from all the chaos. The creator of the gardens, Li Yu, was a well-known Chinese playwright and novelist known to have published a painting manual still used by art students today. The Jieziyuan Hotel has retained much of what was originally there, tactfully blending modern guest rooms into the garden’s peaceful and serene ambiance.

Price: 1000rmb (130usd) per night

6. Kayumanis Nanjing Private Villa & Spa

You may have heard of the Kayumanis brand if you’ve visited Bali before. The first of its chain in China, the Kayumanis Nanjing has been the most luxurious hot spring hotel in the Tang Shan region. The hotel retains Nanjing’s traditional architectural style, with its blue bricks, small tiles, and horsehead walls (yes you heard it right). Guest rooms overlook the lake and camphor forest, making you question whether you’re in Bali or Nanjing. Like in Bali, the Kayumanis Nanjing also offers butler services.

Price: 3000rmb (410usd) per night
